The Scottish Portrait Awards are open to anyone who was born in Scotland, is resident in Scotland or studying in Scotland. All entrants must be 18 years old by 1 October 2017.
The Scottish Portrait Award for Fine Art of £5,000 will be awarded for stunning portraits in any 2D or 3D medium. The Richard Coward Scottish Portrait Award in Photography of £2,000, will be awarded to the most striking black and white photographic portrait. (Learn more about Richard Coward)
The works of up to 60 finalists will be included in the Scottish Portrait Awards exhibition and catalogue. A portrait commission worth £3,000 awarded to a fine art finalist by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS)
The winners of SPA awards will be presented with two years free membership of the Scottish Arts Club, Edinburgh. Read more about our Awards.
The SPA Judges 2017
Judges for the SPA in Fine Art include artist and playwright John Byrne; Imogen Gibbon, who is chief curator at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery; Guy Peploe, the director of the Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh; multiple award-winning portrait artist Jennifer McRae, and fine contemporary artist Gordon Mitchell who is also the SPA Director.
Judges for the Richard Coward SPA in Photography include Ben Harman from Edinburgh’s Stills Gallery, Malcolm Dickson of Street Level Photoworks, Glasgow and Siobhán Coward who has decades of photographic study and experience. Read more about our Judges.
